Interviewing The VK Collection!
Wouldn’t you agree? If you’re anything like I am, then I’m sure that the understanding is mutual.
And in which case I’m positive you’d be able to empathize in a celebratory way how stoked I was to come upon a company like the VK Collection! I first came upon VK and their sophistication-chic jewelry through Instagram.
After possibly obsessing over every item and piece I was able to browse, I headed straight to their website to find out more about what the VK Collection was all about.
A few engaging emails back and forth between the lovely founders of VK and myself, and I’m more enamored with their collection than ever! It was an absolute pleasure interacting with this company, not only in the process of interviewing these ladies, but in also gaining an understanding of who Ms. Valentina and Ms. Krista are as true entrepreneurial business women in the fashion and jewelery creative industry. Thus, without further adieu, I present to you an exclusive interview featuring the women behind the VK Collection; and photography of many pieces of their jewelry to match their story.
**And also please enjoy indulging a bit in Krista’s spark and wit, along Valentina’s obvious heart-felt humor in the bottom bonus section of Fun Questions!**
First things first: Where were you each born?Valentina: Tuzi, Montenegro
Krista: Lviv, Ukraine
What inspired the creation of the VK Collection?
We have both loved jewelry since we were kids, growing up we spent countless hours creating jewelry and spent our piggy-bank savings on the jewels we couldn’t live without. Simply put, since we were little, jewelry has been our obsession. With VKcollection, we wanted to create a destination for women where they could find chic, unique pieces for every occasion.
How did you get started on your journey as entrepreneurs and business owners?
We knew we wanted to own a business together, and considered many ideas but always kept coming back to jewelry. We spent a lot of time researching everything that would go into a business, and last September we knew if we didn’t start then, it would never happen. So, we set unrealistic goals for ourselves and decided to give it our all… every day since then we have been working on making VK all that it can be. We have big goals for our brand, and will do whatever it takes to accomplish them.
Do you ladies remember the first pieces you created/designed for your collection?
Yes, our Sace necklace was the first piece we designed.
If you both could sum up your look and aesthetic in three words, what would they be and why?
We do and always will aim to be chic, unique and timeless! These are the three things every piece of jewelry should be.
I noticed that you have such beautiful names for each of your pieces. Where does your inspiration come from for your pieces?
We have used Albanian and Ukrainian names for every piece in our collection – we love to give our jewelry a little personality and a piece of ourselves.
What audience or age range do you envision wearing your designs?
We would love women of all ages to wear our pieces, a woman is never too young or too old to wear fabulous jewelry.
What are some of your accomplishments as designers?
We have accomplished a few milestones in little time – started our online store and brand, built relationships with amazing designers and partners, but we have big aspirations and dreams for VK.
Do you have a favorite accessory designer that you admire?
There are so many!
Alexis Bittar, Anton Heunis, Deborah Pagani, Shourouk, and Kenneth Jay Lane, just to name a few.
What advice do you have for aspiring jewelry designers?
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned as designer and business owners so far?
To never give up – every small step, every small win, amounts to something bigger, being closer to the goal.
What are some new pieces you are working on, and what are the VK Collection’s plans for the coming future?
We are actually working on a new venture, it’s still in early stages, and we don’t want to ruin the surprise… Two words though – Swarovski crystals!!!
Where can we find you?
VKcollection.com, and we will have several pop up shops coming soon, first in MI then possibly NY and Chicago, stay tuned!
