Vogue’s Vault – Part I

Lens On a Legend –

This stunning black-and-white portrait was taken earlier in the year of 1962. As the ageless and timeless Marilyn Monroe, dressed in Christian Dior Haute Couture, poses in what is known to be one of her last pictures.

Face in the Crowd-

French mademoiselle and model Marie-Lise Grès finds herself standing among a swarm of faceless onlookers in front of the Paris Opera, in the year 1963; photographed by William Klein for Vogue UK.

On the Road –

A 1992 photograph of the American model Kristen McMenamy. Known for her unconventional, androgynous appearance, in this photo shows a innocent and softer feminine side to the Vogue audience and readers; as she is led through the gardens of the Château de Champs by photographer Steven Meisel.

Desert Siren –

German actress and model Nadja Auermann posses here, styled as German actress and singer Marlene Dietrich. Dressed abstractly different from those passing by in the Marrakech market of Morocco, she leans in ever so slightly, to create the illusion of her capturing the scenes of the bustling marketplace. Photographed by Ellen von Unwerth, Vogue, 1992.
